Liberty or Surveillance: How technology affects the Freedom to Publish

The adoption of Social Media has been widespread, and the number of users (and trolls) continues to grow. In some countries, Social Media helps authorities track down anyone who thinks differently, while in others, it gives freedom to people who have never had a chance to publicly express their thoughts. It has become the most efficient tool for any movement to use to reach out to like-minded people and supporters. It also makes its users a vulnerable target. Does Social Media promote Freedom of Expression or suppress it?

A Faustian Bargain: New Technologies and the Future of the Creative Industries

New technologies disrupt in order to deliver—the Kindle for books, Spotify for music, and the World Wide Web for news. But what is the cost of this explosion of availability? Books peddle fire and fury to keep your attention; music turns into background noise, while news is written as clickbait. This looks like a ‘Faustian bargain’. So the question is: can creators and audiences strike a balance between accessibility and quality?
